Do you have a personal mantra that you live by? What about a favorite inspirational quote or yoga-related piece of wisdom?
Here are a few favorites from some of our teachers. May they bring you a moment of reflection on this Wednesday...
Sally- Among the vast pool of inspirational and spiritual quotes here is one in particular that resonates with me, by Rumi: "You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the ocean in a drop." I am you and you are me and we are all one. As my practice grows and matures, as I dive deeper into my self-exploration through asana, meditation, time in nature, time alone, and well, let's be honest, as I mature, I develop a clearer understanding of the unity of all things. I feel it in the deepest depths of my soul. May we all seek to move into that heart knowledge so we can better see our similarities rather than only our differences. Peace.
Sunie- My daily Mantra: "The universe is a stage on which your mind dances with your body, guided by your heart."
Dawn S.- Here's a recent favorite quote by B.K.S Iyengar: "Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one's being, from bodily health to self-realization. Yoga means union – the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one's actions." I love the last line, as it is so applicable to my life and the reason why I stayed with a personal yoga practice even before I started teaching. Yoga can help everyone find a balanced attitude in all parts of their lives.
Mary Catherine- While it isn't necessarily my personal mantra, I often come back to this simple, straightforward quote by Rodney Yee: "When you stand in the present moment, you are timeless." I'm also a huge fan of the saying, "Wherever you go, there you are," by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
