1. What made you try yoga for the first time?
Friends of mine started taking yoga and were talking about these really cool yoga poses that they were learning and how fun the classes were (honestly nothing that I had pictured yoga to be at the time. I had always been a runner and played sports, but I was looking for something more to incorporate into my life. Ultimately, I needed to be inspired so I gave yoga a chance. Needless to say, after class I just floated out of there.
2. What’s your favorite yoga pose and why?
Hmmmm...I love half moon because it is so opening and freeing. I also love half pigeon (a pose that I desperately need every day for my hips) because it allows me to really breathe DEEPLY (which is another thing that I desperately need to do every day).
3. If you could study under anyone for a year, who would it be and why?
I really don’t think I could pick just one for a year, because different teachers have their special gifts to share and I think it’s great to collect treasures to incorporate from more than one person.
4. What inspires you?
The smiles that comes across my daughter and son’s faces, a really great song, a beautiful sunny day on the outer beach.
5. Favorite restaurant on the Cape?
That is definitely The Oceanhouse. Such yummy fish and beautiful view.
6. What is your favorite book and why?
Probably The Art of Racing in The Rain by Garth Stein. It is told from a dog’s point of view and I found the story so touching.
7. Best trip you have ever taken?
We go to the Bahamas every year. It is beautiful and we really get to spend time as a family and step away from our crazy life here. The natives are so down-to-earth and real, they bring you back to what’s really important.
8. What’s your favorite type of music to practice to? Favorite yoga song?
I think whatever sounds inspiring and connects with the the mood I am in. I love to practice to both music with words and sometimes without. Some favorites are "Just Breathe" by Coldplay, "Frozen" by Madonna (yes, played at my first yoga class!), "Gandhi/Buddha" by Cheryl Wheeler, and "Let Go" by Frou Frou.
9. How do you stay balanced? How do you unwind?
By going to a yoga class, on a run, or to the beach. Also by holding a warm cup of coffee and just breathing.
10. Words (or quote) you live by?
I think the one that I constantly come back to is LET GO!
