Luminous Lymph: Yoga to Support the Lymphatic System with Petra L. van Aarem

A critical component to our health and wellness, the lymphatic system is a network of vessels and organs that lie beneath the skin to help your body filter out waste and bacteria. Unlike our circulatory system which is pumped by the heart, the lymphatic system does not have a pump and is therefore vulnerable to stagnation. When the pathways of lymph are congested or blocked, our immune system can be compromised, making us more prone to illness and disease.

Yoga postures and breathwork are ideal for moving lymphatic fluid through the body, and generating flushing and drainage in the key areas of lymph to promote preventative and curative support for a healthy immune system. Additional benefits of lymph drainage practices are improved skin-tone and reduced inflammation/edema.

In this workshop we will discuss the amazing ways our lymphatic system functions to keep us healthy and fascinating overlaps with the ancient yogic system of the Vayus. You will then experience a specialized practice to stimulate the flow of lymph for a boost in immunity and vitality. This will include a simple take home sequence for you to practice when you start to feel an illness coming on (quite useful during this cold and flu season!).

Please note: this workshop will include use of the yoga chair, yoga tune-up therapy balls, and multiple inverted postures. While modifications will be offered, it is recommended that participants be comfortable going upside down.
